AED 101
An Automated External Defibrillatoris a tiny , portable device that analyzes a person’s heart rhythm for any flaws and, if prudent , instructs the trained help to provide an electrical shock to the heart of an SCA sufferer. This shock , called defibrillation, might enable the heart to reestablish a regular rhythm .
An AED employs voice prompts to instruct the rescuer . Once the equipment is turned on , the trained help will be prompted to situate the two pads that come with the AED to the SCA vistim’s chest. Once in position, the AED will start to monitor the SCA victim’s heart rhythm. If a “shockable” rhythm is detected , the machine will charge itself and instruct the trained help to steer clear of the victim and to push the shock button.
An AED is designed to communicate to the trained help exactly what needs to be done, employing voice and visual cues . Rescuers put sticky electrode pads on the person’s chest. Through these electrodes, the AED is programmed to automatically determine the electrical activity of the heart to determine if a “shockable” rhythm is present .
Whether you undergo an SCA at home or in the Hospital Emergency Room , defibrillation is THE best treatment.
